SANDHURST TUG OF WAR
YOUTH TEAM

Sandhurst Tug of War Youth Team will be representing England at the forthcoming World Tug of War Championships in Pretoria, South Africa from the 15th to 18th September 2010.

The Youth Team which comprises of 15 to 18 year olds from in and around Sandhurst won two Gold medals, dominating both weight categories, at the Youth National Championships held in June of this year.

Their Coach Stuart Canning states “we trained the pups (Sandhurst’s affectionate name for youth pullers) particularly hard this season, pulling them with and against our best senior lads.”  Given that Sandhurst’s Senior Squad boasts half a dozen multiple World Champions, it is little wonder the Youth team have achieved such rapid success.

This is a wonderful opportunity for them to represent their Country and an excellent way of reinforcing Sandhurst’s current “Respect, Responsibility and Rights” community project.  The main focus for the team is taking responsibility”!  All their pullers are responsible for preparing and maintaining their own puling kit, ensuring that they attend training and competitions promptly and ensuring they do their own training away from the Club etc.  The Youth team are also aware that they must take responsibility for undertaking some fundraising activities themselves in order to achieve the £1,000 it costs per team member to attend and participate in the World Championships.

Sandhurst Town Council are proud sponsors of Sandhurst Tug of War Club and not only donated £1,500 but also want to wish them every success next month.
